Iran can save up to $7 billion in energy costs through applying national building regulations, the managing director of the Energy Efficiency Management Organization of Iran Saeid Mohazeb-Torabi said.
Saeid Mohazeb-Torabi told IRNA news agency that observing the national building regulations can lead to 40-60 percent decrease in energy consumption.
The continuation of the current trend of consumption will turn Iran into a fuel importer by 2025, he added.
While Iran's shares in the world's oil and gas consumption are 2.2 percent and 4.5 percent, respectively, the country's share in the world's GDP is just 0.39 percent, he said.
