The Iranian Sahar 1 drilling platform has been installed in the Persian Gulf's Farzad A gas field.

The 3,000 horsepower platform can drill to depth of 30,000 feet, Shana news agency reports.

The Farzad gas field is split in two parts, A and B, and is one of the fields Iran shares with Saudi Arabia.

Farzad A's first well was drilled last year (Iran's solar year ended on March 19) by the project's executor, Petropars who will drill a second well this year.

Farzad A's capacity makes it possible to install and operate two or three drilling platforms simultaneously, said Seyed Mahmoud Mohades the National Iranian Oil Company's director of exploration.

Mohades added that 90 percent of the field's 3D seismic operations are done.

Iran has recently intensified efforts to exploit the oil and gas fields it shares with other countries.
