Iran's envoy to the United Nations has called for urgent action to stop violent crimes against Muslims in Myanmar.
Mohammad Khazaee said the international community must act quickly to prevent further crimes against Muslims there, the Jaame-e-JamNews Daily reported.
He also slammed the West for its silence on the violation of Muslims' rights in Myanmar.
Khazaee said such crimes are occurring despite Myanmar's claims of democratization and reform.
He also called for an independent commission for Myanmar to probe into violations of the rights of Muslims and to identify the perpetrators of acts of violence against them.
In recent months, hundreds of Rohingyas have been killed and many more displaced due to the ongoing violence. Some rights organizations have accused the Myanmar authorities of being involved in the violence.
