Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei thanked the Iranian people for their huge turnout in June 14 presidential election.

Ayatollah Khamenei also congratulated Hassan Rouhani for his victory in the election.

He said the vote was another landmark test that once again showed the determination of Iran to the nation's friends and enemies.

Ayatollah Khamenei also said that by participating in the vote, the great Iranian nation displayed its capacity in prudently dealing with the "hegemonic powers" psychological warfare against the nation.

He also said that by voting the people ensured their country's national interests.

Ayatollah Khamenei further said the president-elect is the president of all Iranians and all people should help him and his colleagues in their efforts to achieve their lofty goals.

In total 36,704,156 votes have been counted which marked a 72.7 per cent turn out. Based on the results Reformist Candidate Hassan Rohani was elected as the country's next president with 18,613,329 votes.
