Unity among Iranians and the government is vital in a time when the country is negotiating [with the P5+1], Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said on Feb. 11, Iranian ISNA News Agency reported.

He made the remarks at the sidelines of ceremonies to mark the anniversary of the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

"Unity among the nation was the legacy of the late Imam Khomeini," Zarif said, adding that the current leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Ali Khamenei also pays special attention to this issue.

Millions of Iranians have taken to the streets to attend nationwide demonstrations.

President Hassan Rouhani is scheduled to give a speech at the event in Tehran.

Officials say over 100 foreign correspondents and about 200 local journalists are covering the ceremonies.
