Foreign ministers of Iran and Turkmenistan meet in Tehran

( Irna ) - Visiting Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan Rashid Mardev met and conferred with our country's foreign minister here Wednesday night.

At the meeting on the sidelines of the Caspian Sea Littoral States Foreign Ministers Tehran Conference, the Iranian FM Manouchehr Mottaki referred to the agreements reached during the Turkmen president's state visit of Tehran.

He added, "The bilateral relations are at a good level now, and we hope relying on the will and seriousness of the two countries' top officials, such ties would further expand to more eye catching levels, compared to last year."

Our country's foreign minister considered the two countries' potentials for expanding economic ties broad and diversified, adding, "We need to have more active cooperation in important fields of mutual interest, such as anti-narcotic drugs campaign, energy, rail roads, and establishment of a trilateral trade line among Iran, Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan.

Mottaki announced Iran's readiness for construction of the 100 km Inche Borun-Ashkhabad road by the Iranian engineering firms.

Rashid Mardev, too, in the meeting referring to his country's president's state visit of Iran, said, "Broad fields were discussed during the two presidents' meeting, and we are trying our best to put to effect all reached agreements."

He said that the upcoming meeting of the railroad heads of Iran, Kazakhstan, and Turkmenistan in order to finalize talks on construction of a trilateral railroad would play a significant role in expansion of regional trade ties.

Mardev meanwhile asked for continuation of talks to reach a legal status for the Caspian Sea.
