Iran’s Customs Administration allows imported rice to enter country

Customs Administration of the Islamic Republic of Iran has ordered the customs authorities of the country to allow imported rice enter the country, IRNA reported.

When analyzing Iranian customs statistics, 935,647 tons of rice worth $964.067 million was imported in the first half of the year (Iranian year starts March 21, 2018).

Annual rice consumption in Iran is about 3.2 million tons. This is while 1.7-2 million tons are grown in Iran. Approximately 1.2-1.5 million tons of rice are imported annually. India is the main rice supplier for Iran. Pakistan, Thailand and Uruguay also provide a part of Iran’s imported rice.
