Iran expects to harvest about one million tons of pomegranates in the current Iranian year (began March 21, 2019), Head of the Tropical and Semi-tropical Fruits Office of Iran's Agriculture Jihad Ministry Zahra Jalili Moghaddam said, Trend reports referring to Iranian Agriculture News Agency.
Compared to previous Iranian year (March 21, 2018 - March 21, 2019), the work to increase the quality at pomegranate orchards has been further intensified, Moghaddam said, adding that work is also being done to increase the output.
According to the head of Tropical and Semi-tropical Fruits Office, Iran's pomegranates are exported to many countries, including the UAE, South Korea, Iraq, Oman, Turkmenistan, Qatar, Germany, Switzerland, Russia, Austria, India, France and Pakistan.
Given the export potential of this product, programs to increase exports should be implemented, Moghaddam added.
