Russia and Iran held a new round of consultations on cooperation in the nuclear energy sphere in Tehran on Oct.15, the Communications Department of Russia's State Atomic Energy Corporation (Rosatom) said on Oct.16.

The consultations were held between the Deputy Director General of Rosatom, Nikolay Spassky and Vice-President of Iran's Atomic Energy Organization, Behrouz Kamalvandi, RIA Novosti reported.

"The sides discussed the current and long-term bilateral cooperation issues in the nuclear energy sphere," Rosatom said.

The previous round of the consultations was held in September.

It was earlier reported that Russia and Iran plan to sign a contract by late 2014 to construct two new units at Iran's Bushehr nuclear power plant.
