By Fatih Karimov - Trend: Iran is capable of detecting reconnaissance planes of enemies from long distance.
Brigadier General Farzad Esmaeili, the commander of the Khatam-ol-Anbiya Air Defense Base said that any flight at any part of the country can be traced, Iran 's Fars news agency reported on March 10.
The Khatam-ol-Anbiya Air Defense Base is tasked with protecting oilfields and platforms, he added.
In March 2013, Iran identified and repelled an American U2 reconnaissance plane that was trying to intrude into Iranian airspace above the Sea of Oman .
In December 2011, the Iranian military grounded a US RQ-170 Sentinel stealth aircraft while it was flying over the Iranian city of Kashmar , some 225 kilometers ( 140 miles ) from the Afghan border.
