The OSCE Parliamentary Assembly (PA) will adopt a resolution in Georgia on Monday.
Yesterday the OSCE PA Political Committee adopted a resolution, despite the Russian delegation was against it, Georgian Parliament told Trend on Monday.
According to the Georgian delegation head, Vice-Speaker Gigi Tsereteli, 55 out of 56 countries represented in the OSCE PA, unequivocally support the resolution proposed by Polish MPs.
"We believe in support of our colleagues, who will discuss the situation in Georgia and adopt the resolution on it," Tsereteli said.
He stressed that the resolution recognizes the fact of occupation of Georgia, requires access of the European Union Monitoring Mission to these areas to ensure a decent return of refugees to their homes.
Parliamentarian from Poland Michal Sherba submitted a resolution calling on the OSCE member states to support the safe and dignified return to all internally displaced persons (IDPs) to their places of residence within Georgia and their "occupied territories", the International Secretariat of the OSCE PA said.
The resolution, which will be considered at the annual session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, on July 5-9, also calls to resume the OSCE mission in Georgia and provide unimpeded access of the European Union Monitoring Mission (EUMM) to Georgia's "occupied territories".
"More efficient Geneva process and open dialogue between the parties to resolve the protracted conflicts in Georgia are of key importance for regional stability, but the best way to reduce the suffering of the conflict-affected population is to help their safe return to their places of residence," Sherba said.
Parliamentarians from 56 OSCE member states will vote on the resolutions and declarations in Monaco.
According to the UN estimates, there are 359,000 IDPs in Georgia.
Military actions were launched in the Georgian territory, South Ossetia on Aug.8 in 2008. Later the Russian troops occupied the Tskhinvali city and drove the Georgian military back. Russia recognized the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia in late August. In response, Tbilisi broke off diplomatic relations with Moscow and announced two unrecognized republics as the occupied territories.
