Palestinian anti-barrier protester dies of injuries

A Palestinian protesting against Israel's West Bank separation barrier died Saturday morning, a day after inhaling tear gas during a demonstration in the village of Bil'in, local media reported.

Jawaher Abu-Rahma, 36, did not respond to treatment in a Ramallah hospital, dpa reported.

Two years ago, her brother, Bassam, was killed during a protest in the same village, which is located about four kilometres from the Israel-West Bank border. Another brother, Ashraf, was shot and wounded during a demonstration, also against the barrier, in another village, Na'alin.

Israel began building the barrier in 2002, following a spate of suicide bombings in its cities. Palestinians however say the barrier is part of an Israeli "land grab", since in places it snakes deep into the West Bank and cuts villages like Bil'in off from their surrounding land.
