The death toll in a car bomb blast that shook the Iraqi district of al-Miqdadiya on Thursday has reached 13, medical sources told the German Press Agency dpa on Friday.
Six people had initially been reported killed.
At least 32 people were also injured in the explosion, which came from a car parked near a police checkpoint in the district, located some 100 kilometres north-east of the capital Baghdad.
Al-Miqdadiya is located in the restive Diyala province, which was an al-Qaeda stronghold until 2008, when Iraqi and US forces conducted major operations against the militants.
