The runway of Benghazi airport in eastern Libya ehas been totally destroyed and no planes will be able to land there, Al Arabiya reported Tuesday, citing the Egyptian Foreign Ministry.
Six planes will fly Tuesday to the capital Tripoli and the city of Sirte to bring hundreds of Egyptians working in Libya back home, DPA reported.
More planes will be sent on Wednesday, according to Hussein Masuod, head of EgyptAir.
The Armed Forces also prepared a number of military aircraft to help in the evacuation of Egyptians.
On Monday, a Foreign Ministry official said that some 4,000 Egyptian nationals had fled Libya by overland. Two Egyptians were said to have been killed in Libya.
