Hamas and Israeli delegates arrived late Monday in Cairo to meet separately with Egyptian mediators to discuss details of a ceasefire agreed last week that ended eight days of fighting in the Gaza Strip, dpa reported.

A Hamas official in Beirut told dpa that the talks would focus on Palestinian demands for the opening of more Israeli crossings into Gaza to ease the six-year blockade on the enclave, which is ruled by the Palestinian Islamist movement.

The ceasefire between Hamas and Israel came into force on Wednesday, after the fighting killed some 170 Palestinians and six Israelis.

Israel imposed restrictions on Gaza in 2006, following Hamas' election victory.

The Palestinian and Israeli delegations never meet directly but negotiate through Egyptian mediators.
