( dpa ) - Four people were killed and 10 injured in landslides that struck a southern Philippine town after days of heavy rains, civil defence officials said Sunday.

Flashfloods also forced hundreds of people to flee their homes in five villages in Santa Maria town in Davao Del Sur province, 965 kilometres south of Manila.

Maridel Jamiro, an officer with the regional Office of Civil Defence, said four people, including a five-month-old baby, were killed in the landslides in San Pedro village.

The bodies of the fatalities were recovered on Saturday, she said.

Jamiro said the civil defence office has dispatched teams to assess the situation and determine how many families were displaced in the five affected villages.
