British embassy warns against high terror threat in UAE
Terrorists may be planning to carry out attacks in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the British embassy in the Gulf country said Monday, reported dpa.
"There is a high threat from terrorism. We believe terrorists may be planning to carry out attacks in the UAE," said a travel advice posted on the British embassy website.
"Attacks could be indiscriminate and could happen at anytime, including in places frequented by expatriates and foreign travelers, such as residential compounds, military, oil transport and aviation interests," the statement said.
The United Arab Emirates has become a popular destination for British tourists drawn to the many shopping and entertainment opportunities offered by the country's glitzy emirate of Dubai.
Over one million British tourists visited the UAE in 2006, according to the embassy, and over 100,000 British expatriates work there.
