ANA, Foreign Troops to Support Anti-Narcotics Drive

Afghanistan, Kabul, 20 September/ Trend , corr: A.Hakimi/ Counter narcotics ministry officials say international troops and the Afghan National Army will also take part with the police in counter-narcotics efforts and eradication of poppy cultivation in the future.

General Muhammad Daud, deputy minister for counter narcotics, said in a ceremony for completion of training of the poppy eradication operation team on Thursday that the efforts to eliminate drugs will be more effective now as foreign and Afghan military will join the special counter-narcotic task force.

He said Afghan forces will be carrying out ground operation for eradicating poppies while foreign troops will be doing the operation from air.

He said the special counter narcotics task force was created under the ministry of counter narcotics that will be jointly working with the police.

Afghanistan is the top producer of opium in the world for the past four years.
