A staff member of the International Committee of the Red Cross was killed Tuesday in the city of Jaffna in northern Sri Lanka, the organization said, dpa reported.
The man, Sivasundaralingam Gangatharan, a father of two, was shot when getting off a bus to go to work in the morning. He had been with the ICRC since 1999.
Police were said to be investigating the circumstances of the incident.
The ICRC, which called the death "tragic," said it would continue its work in the country.
