Twenty one killed in shootings in northern Mexico

At least 21 people were killed in shootings between a criminal gang and members of the military on Tuesday in northern Mexico, a police spokesman said, dpa reported.

Members of a drug gang kidnapped nine people to kill them in the city Villa Ahumada, police spokesman Enrique Torres said.

As soldiers attempted to rescue the victims, six of them were shot. Fourteen of the alleged hijackers and one policeman were also killed in the shootout.
