Iranian president leaves for New York

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad left for New York to attend UN General Assembly's next session. Ahmadinejad will make a speech during the session, Iranian Mehr news agency reported.

Ahmadinejad is accompanied by the head of Office of President Rahim Meshal, Vice President Mujtaba Samara Hashemi, as well as several MPs.

During his visit to New York in 2008, the President of Iran made a speech at Columbia University. Rector of the University presented Ahmadinejad to the participants as "a little dictator." During the current visit to the U.S., Ahmadinejad once again scheduled to meet with Iranian students and intellectuals, but as yet it is not precisely known at what university he will make a speech.

This is Ahmadinejad's fifth visit to New York to attend the annual meeting of the UN General Assembly.

On the eve of the visit of Iranian President to New York, human rights activists planned holding large actions. BBC reported that the actions will take place to protest against the results of Iranian presidential elections held on June 12 and the arrest of political activists.

Millions of Iranians held actions protesting against the results of the recent presidential elections in the country. During the actions, were detained 4,000 people, currently hundreds of participants are still in prison. According to official figures, during the actions were killed 31 people, according to unofficial data - 72.

Ex-presidential candidates Mir Hussein Mousavi and Mehdi Karrubi did not officially recognize Ahmadinejad's administration, and demanded re-election.
