Boat capsizes off eastern Indonesia, 10 dead

At least 10 people were killed and eight others injured after a boat sank on Monday off a remote eastern Indonesian province, media reports said.

   The boat was believed to be carrying 75 people when it was swamped by high waves near Adonara island off East Nusa Tenggara province, the VIVAnews online news service reported, dpa reported.

   The boat was en route to Lembata island from Adonara.

   Rescue workers retrieved 10 bodies and eight injured survivors. The remaining passengers still missing and feared drowned.

   Adonara police chief Abdul Rahman was quoted as saying that the boat swerved after being hit by huge waves, sparking panic among the passengers before it capsized.
