Afghan President Hamid Karzai left for Turkmenistan's capital Ashgabat on Saturday to sign an agreement on trans-gas pipeline, a statement released by his office here said, Xinhua reported.
"President Hamid Karzai left Kabul for Ashgabat this morning to sign the agreement on transmission of gas pipeline from Turkmenistan to Pakistan onward to India through Afghanistan," the statement added.
Under the agreement by Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, India and Pakistan, Turkmenistan would export 33 billion cubic meters of natural gas annually to the three countries, with 5.1 billion cubic meters going to Afghanistan.
Implementation of the giant project would be of significant impact on promoting ties among regional countries and enhancing economic cooperation in the region, the statement said.
