Russia marked the 66th anniversary of World War II victory with a military parade on Moscow's Red Square on Monday, dpa reported.
The parade began with a minute of silence for the victims of the war and the sounding of bells from the Kremlin's Spassky Tower.
The hour-long ceremony saw a march-past by around 20,000 soldiers and flag-bearers, with guests of honour looking on.
Also on display were tanks, missiles and a flyover of aircraft.
With around 27 million people killed between 1941 and 1945, the then Soviet Union suffered more losses than any other country in the war.
