Germany train crash: Several dead, about 150 injured (UPDATING)

12:48 (GMT+4) Eight people have died and about 150 have been injured after two trains crashed head on in southern Germany, according to local police.

12:14 (GMT+4) Several people died after two trains collided in the southern German state of Bavaria on Tuesday, a police spokesman said, adding about 100 people were also injured, Reuters reported.

"Two trains crashed head on," said a police spokesman.

"There are about 100 injured, scores of people seriously injured and several dead," he said. The accident happened at 6.48 a.m. local time (12.48 a.m. ET) near Bad Aibling in the southeastern corner of Germany.
