By Rufiz Hafizoglu – Trend:

Turkey may increase the number of its servicemen in Syria up to 15,000, Milliyet newspaper reported Aug. 25 citing military sources.

Meanwhile, the creation of a buffer zone in Syria for defense from militants of the “Islamic State” terrorist organization is also possible.

Currently, 450 Turkish servicemen are in Syria within the military operations under the name “Shield of the Euphrates.”

It was previously reported that Turkey is considering the creation of safe zones in Syria between the cities of Aleppo, Idlib and the Turkish border (including border towns Ayn al-Arab (Kobani), Jarabulus and others).

Turkish authorities also actively promote the issue of establishing safe areas in the north of Syria.

On Aug. 24 morning, the Turkish Air Force with the support of the coalition aircraft launched an operation to liberate the city of Jarabulus from the IS militants in northern Syria, near Aleppo city.

The operation was carried out under the name “Shield of the Euphrates.”

Earlier, it was reported that Turkish tanks entered Syria. Syria has been suffering from an armed conflict since March 2011, which, according to the UN, has so far claimed over 500,000 lives.

Militants from various armed groups are confronting the Syrian government troops. The “Islamic State” (IS, ISIL, ISIS or Daesh) is the most active terrorist group in Syria.
