Turkey, Russia stand united in fight against terrorism - Erdogan
BAKU, Azerbaijan, Oct. 22
By Rufiz Hafizoglu - Trend:
Turkey and Russia have a unified position in the fight against terrorism, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said before his visit to Russia, Trend reports with reference to the Turkish media.
Erdogan noted that Ankara and Moscow also support Syria’s territorial integrity.
The Turkish president said that the joint efforts by Ankara and Moscow will have effect in the fight against terrorism.
Erdogan noted that Operation Peace Spring is directed against terrorists in northern Syria, and not against any ethnic groups.
“Unfortunately, a propaganda campaign is being carried out to denigrate the Operation Peace Spring,” the Turkish president added. “Some Western media distort the purpose of the military operation using photos and videos taken during military conflicts in other countries.”
On Oct. 9, Erdogan announced the beginning of a new military operation in Syria, called "Peace Spring".
On Oct. 17, Ankara agreed with Washington to suspend the Operation Peace Spring in Syria's north for 120 hours, so that during this time the YPG/PYD detachments would leave northern Syria.
On Oct. 18, the agreement on the 120-hour cessation of military operations in Syria's north by the Turkish Armed Forces entered into force.
