The seventh session of the Turkmen parliament of the fifth convocation will be held on February 28, the Turkmen government said Feb. 27.

Several bills are planned to be considered at this session.

At the recent expanded governmental meeting, Turkmen parliament chairperson Akja Nurberdiyeva informed about the parliament's activity on legislative support for the ongoing social and economic reforms in the country.

"While stressing the importance of the work of parliamentarians, Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov emphasized the need for their close interaction with voters, strict control for the implementation of social projects and state programs aimed at improving the living standard of the population in the districts," said the statement.

Under the Turkmen constitution, the parliament passes laws, makes changes and additions to the Turkmen constitution, approves the state budget, resolves the issues on holding referendums and announces presidential and parliamentary elections.

It also considers the issues on the appointment and dismissal of the chairman of the Supreme Court, attorney general, interior minister and minister of justice and ratifies and terminates international treaties, resolves the issues to change the state borders and the administrative-territorial division of Turkmenistan.
