Iran wants to reach a deal with West on Tehran's nuclear issue in three months, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said during his interview to the Washington Post.
"The shorter it is, the more beneficial it is to everyone. If it's three months that would be Iran's choice, if it's six months that's still good," Rouhani said, adding that It's a question of months not years.
Rouhani made the remarks just few hours before negotiations which will be held today between Iran and P5+1 group on Iran`s nuclear issue.
In a rare encounter between US and Iranian officials, Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif will meet US Secretary of State John Kerry within the framework of the P5+1 group.
Rouhani went on to note that, the only way forward is for a short timeline to be inserted into the negotiations.
According to the report, Iranian president has emphasized again that he has full authority to negotiate on the issue.
Rouhani said he was prepared to offer extensive "transparency" measures to reassure the West that Iran doesn't intend to build nuclear weapons.
He likened these measures to what Iran allowed from 2003 to 2005, when he was the country's chief negotiator, including acceptance of intrusive "additional protocols" from the International Atomic Energy Agency, as well as inspections to assess what the IAEA calls "possible military dimensions."
Rouhani stressed that Iranian nuclear program is peaceful and producing nuclear weapon is against of Iranians' mission and ideals, during his speech at UNGA yesterday.
He added that Iran is ready to eliminate nuclear dispute with West and this is possible with respecting Iran's rights and mutual respects.
He went on saying that Iran is ready to build trust and confidence to make transparency in its nuclear program.
Some experts believe that, the Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has shown "green light" to country's president Hassan Rouhani regarding direct negotiations with the U.S. on nuclear issue.
On Sept. 17, Khamenei said that he endorses "wise" and "correct" measures in domestic and foreign policies, noting "I agree with what I called heroic flexibility ... because this move is very good on some occasions and is necessary."
However, he added in being flexible, a hero should not forget the "nature" of his opponent and objectives.
Khamenei also said that he's "not opposed to proper diplomatic motions," adding that diplomacy should be associated with 'heroic flexibility".
Iran has been a subject of international sanctions, as Western states suspect the Islamic Republic of developing nuclear weapons. Iran on the other hand denies it, claiming it uses nuclear energy for peaceful purposes only.
