Tehran, Iran, April 15

By Mehdi Sepahvand - Trend:

A delegation of five officials from the International Atomic Energy Organization arrived in Tehran early in the morning April 15.

Headed by IAEA Deputy Director General Tero Varjoranta, the delegation will hold an expert meeting later the day, IRNA news agency reported April 15.

Behrooz Kamalvandi, spokesman for Iran Atomic Energy Organization, said that the talks will last one day and the delegation will depart Tehran in the evening.

He said that following an announcement by IAEA Secretary General Yukiya Amano last year, Iran and the agency are following a step-by-step process to clarify Iran's nuclear program, of which two steps have been taken so far.

"In the third step they had some questions and they still pose some questions and the Islamic Republic of Iran still answers their questions," he said.

Kamalvandi explained that the IAEA questions relate to neutron transfer reactions as well as a last-year blast around the city of Marivan in western Iran.
He said that Iran has invited IAEA inspectors to visit the area in Marivan where they believe huge blasts have occurred.

"We believe that there is no question we haven't answered," he said.

Iran and six world powers struck a framework agreement this month to curb Iran's nuclear program in exchange for easing Western sanctions.

The U.N.'s International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has said it expected progress this month in its own investigation into Iran's current and past nuclear activities.
