The Georgian People's Assembly will start to establish committees in the country's cities and regions to prepare for collective protests today, ex-Parliamentary Speaker and opposition Democratic Movement - United Georgia leader Nino Burjanadze said at a rally yesterday.
The rally took place in front of parliament in Tbilisi on Nov. 25.
Participants demanded the president's resignation and snap presidential and parliamentary elections. Burdzhanadze was a co-organizer of the rally.
Addressing supporters, she said the assembly will continue fighting until a change of power has been realized.
"Today, we are embarkomg on an uncompromising struggle until our final victory," Burjanadze said.
President Mikheil Saakashvili, she said, finally gave up the struggle for the return of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
"We will not allow this," she said. "The destroyed bridges of trust with our Abkhazian and Ossetian compatriots will certainly be rebuilt."
Georgia's autonomous regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia unilaterally declared independence from Georgia after the 2008 August war. The separatist regions were supported by Russia. Later, Moscow established diplomatic relations with the de facto states despite protests from the West. Venezuela, Nicaragua and Nauru recognize the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia.
