Turkish Interior Minister Muammer Guler has denied information on the construction of a wall along the border with Syria, Anadolu agency reported today.

According to him, fences are being constructed on the Turkish- Syrian border to prevent Turkish citizens' entering the mined areas.

It was earlier reported that Turkey started the construction of a wall along the border with Syria to prevent entry of illegal immigrants from that country.

Clashes between government forces and the armed opposition have been continuing in Syria for over two years. According to UN statistics, the total number of victims of the conflict in Syria exceeds 110,000 and nearly three million are in need of humanitarian aid.

Earlier, the head of Turkey's Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD), Fuat Oktay said that the number of Syrian refugees living in Turkey neared 300,000.
According to Oktay, over 181,000 refugees reside in camps set up by the Turkish government for Syrian refugees. Additionally, over 100,000 refugees reside in the border provinces of Turkey, outside the camps.
