Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev has announced January 31 a day of mourning for those killed in a plane crash near Almaty, the presidential press service reported.

Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev has announced January 31 a day of mourning for those killed in a plane crash near Almaty, the presidential press service reported.

"Opening a meeting with heads of law enforcement agencies in Akorda, Kazakh President once again expressed condolences to the families and relatives of victims of the crash," the statement said.

The meeting participants observed a minute of silence in memory of those killed.

On January 29, 2013, at about 13:00, a Challenger-200 aircraft of SCAT Airline, flight No.760 on route from Kokshetau to Almaty crashed five kilometers short of the runway at Almaty.

According to preliminary information, the accident was caused by thick fog.

A criminal case has been initiated surrounding the crash. A special government commission will hold the investigation. Some 21 people were killed in the accident.
