Tehran City Air Pollution Committee in its Monday evening session announced that entire offices, funds, banks, and schools would be closed Wednesday due to alarming high air pollution, IRNA reports.
The military, emergency, and service rendering centers, as well as the hospitals would be subject to their own special sets of rules and regulations in such situations.
International rating company NYC Partnership Consulting published in early 2010 a list of most polluted cities in the world. Comparing 245 largest cities and capitals of the world, specialists made a rating of 30 cities, which for several indicators were recognized as the dirtiest cities. The following indicators: air pollution, the degree of suitability of drinking water, the degree of recovery and recycling of waste, availability of hospital services and medical supplies, degree of presence of infectious diseases were analyzed. Tehran ranked 29th in the list.
