A civilian was killed and 13 others wounded Sunday in separate bomb and gunfire attacks in eastern and central Iraq, the police said, Xinhua reported.

In Iraq's eastern province of Diyala, a civilian was killed when a sticky bomb attached to his car detonated in the city of Maqdadiyah, some 100 km northeast of Baghdad, a provincial police source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

In a separate incident, a sticky bomb attached to a police officer's car went off in eastern the provincial capital city of Baquba, some 65 km northeast of Baghdad, wounding him and two female students who were at the scene when the blast occurred, the source said.

Also in the province, gunmen attacked a checkpoint manned by Awakening Council group fighters near the town of Khan Bani Sa'ad, some 20 km southwest of Baquba, injuring two fighters, the source added.

The Awakening Council group, also known as Sons of Iraq movement or Sahwa, consists of mostly anti-U.S. Sunni insurgent militant groups, who turned their rifles to fight al-Qaida network after Sahwa's leaders became dismayed by al-Qaida's brutality and religious zealotry in the country.

In Baghdad, eight people were injured when a roadside bomb exploded near a gas station in Baghdad's southeastern district Zaafaraniya, an Interior Ministry source anonymously told Xinhua.

Iraqi cities have been plagued by several attacks, including suicide bombings, since the U.S. troops pulled out of the country earlier last month.
