Turkey and Canada sign agreement to build nuclear power plant

Turkish state-owned company EÜAŞ and Canada's Candu have signed an agreement today to build nuclear power plant in Turkey TRT Haber TV channel said on Friday.

Earlier, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of Turkey Taner Yildiz said Turkey is negotiating with three countries on three different models to build nuclear power plants. The minister did not specify with which countries Turkey is negotiating.

Turkey and China signed an agreement on the peaceful use of nuclear energy. Previously, such an agreement was signed with South Korea and Russia.

Russia ratified the intergovernmental agreement with Turkey on cooperation in the construction and operation of Turkey's first nuclear power plant at the Akkuyu site in late 2010.
