Next two years in Azerbaijan to be devoted to wireless technologies

The next two years in Azerbaijan will be devoted to the wireless broadband technologies, Alcatel & Lucent representative office head in Azerbaijan Levent Ozbilgin told Trend on Wednesday.

He said that the Azerbaijani telecommunication market is quite dynamic. It is obvious amid the rapid rates of the transitional period.

"Today, operators work to prepare their infrastructure to render broadband Internet services," he said. "First of all, it is necessary to solve problems with fixed lines to provide Azerbaijan with large data volumes. Delta Telecom company has one of the largest fixed fiber-optic networks in the world."

He said that Azerbaijan's fixed broadband infrastructure meets all requirements. The sphere of wireless broadband Internet is at the stage of development. Alcatel & Lucent company will promote both the development of existing networks like 3G, and the emergence of fourth generation (4G) network in the future.

"As for 4G technology, we also cooperate with Bakcell in the Azerbaijani market," he said. "The matter rests in the preliminary studies on this issue. The practical work may be started after the company receives the required license to deploy 4G network."

At present, Alcatel & Lucent introduces a system to support Operations Support Systems (OSS) in Bakcell.

Commenting on the quality of 3G services rendered by GSM-operators, he said that operators must deal with its optimization of the network.

"We are closely working with Bakcell in this sphere," he said.
