Azerbaijan registers about 2 million IMEI-codes of mobile phones
Azerbaijan, Baku, March 14 /Trend H.Veliyev/
About two million mobile phones imported to the republic for the last 2-2.5 years were registered in the database of IMEI-codes of mobile phones, the head of the company RCom Seymour Mamedov told Trend on Wednesday.
Azerbaijani company Rcom, performing the functions of a system integrator, has been selected as a structure on which the work on the technical building of the system is assigned.
These phones are active in the network, Mammadov said. The phones that were registered by operators of cellular communication for the last year will be added to them.
"There will be 10 million phones in total in the system at the initial stage. About 6-7 million will be active among them. Codes of phones that are registered in the database won't be deleted, but new codes will be added constantly," Mamedov said.
The new system will increase the effectiveness of fight with phone theft and with illegal import mainly from China. IMEI-codes for these phones are not logged in SGM-association, and the degree of radiation does not correspond to valid regulations. The work of these phones, as well as phones with "a broken" IMEI-codes will be limited, Mammadov added.
Owners of illegally imported phones will be notified (via SMS) that their devices do not meet the required standards and will be allocated some time to stop using them.
Registration of IMEI-codes of mobile phones is expected to be launched in May.
Mamedov said the technical part of the project has already been formed, and the action script is so well designed that its launch would be easy and won't take a long time because of work in this direction as they are implemented for a long time.
All information in the project will come to a single center, which will operate in the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology.
After the formation of the database it will be able to have an idea of the mobile phone market (market volume, number of legal and illegal products).
The project has received adequate support from state structures, and will be implemented in the frame of fight against terrorism.
