Head of the Caucasus Muslims Office (CMO) Sheikh ul-Islam Allahshukur Pashazade has called on religious leaders to create a consolidated organisation to address the challenges of modern society.

"To address the challenges of our time, to prevent the facts of the burning of the Quran, the burning of synagogues and mosques, to consolidate the international community it is necessary to create a consolidated organisation of religious leaders," Pashazade said, speaking at the IV Congress of world and traditional religions in Astana.
In addition, he said, today's challenges of globalization dictate the need for joint efforts of state and religious leaders.

"Problems that entered our lives under the cover of globalization, require the joint efforts of government, religious leaders and representatives of science," Pashazade said.

He said today's world has not overcome the challenges of the past centuries, such as hunger, population problem, energy crisis, the problems of preservation of peace. And no country can prevent these challenges alone.

Pashazade also recalled the blatant fact of the burning of the holy book Quran by a pastor in the United States and called on political and religious leaders to prevent the recurrence of such acts.

"I am convinced that in order to avoid such tricks it's necessary within a relevant organisation to create a common institution that would coordinate joint efforts of state and religious figures. Such institution by becoming an example of interreligious and international cooperation will help prevent attempts of offending religious feelings and desecrating symbols, names and places sacred for believers," Pashazade said.
