Azerbaijan, Baku, July 6 / Trend, H.Valiyev /

The Azerbaijani Health Ministry issued 542,366 electronic health cards, Ministry Deputy Spokesman Jabrayil Asadzade told Trend on Friday.

Asadzade said 48,862 units of the total number of cards issued by the ministry fell to the category of patients who are given drugs free of charge and 109,492 cards to patients undergoing medical examination.

Electronic health cards are made in the center of public health and reforms of the Health Ministry. They are given to parents of newborns and children under age 14 free of charge through clinics.

E-card contains information about the identity of the holder, medical and social insurance, etc. The information is included into a single database directly from medical institutions through a local network, allowing exchanging official information rapidly.

At present, all maternity hospitals and children's hospitals operate under the Ministry.
Also, according to Asadzade, at present, work is underway to develop a software module that ensures integration of mobile devices and their autonomous operation with the central database of "electronic health cards".

Within this project, ambulances are planned to be equipped with mobile devices for reading information from the "electronic health card". This will simplify search for necessary information and reduce time of diagnosis. The project is planned to be implemented this year.
