Azerbaijan, EU may sign agreement on visa regime facilitation in 2013
Azerbaijan, Baku, April 3 / Trend A. Badalova /
It is not excluded that the agreement on visa regime facilitation and readmission will be signed between Azerbaijan and the EU in 2013, head of the EU office in Baku Roland Kobia said at the press conference on Wednesday.
"The last round of negotiations between the EU and Azerbaijan on visa facilitation and readmission which was held in mid March in Brussels suggests that the parties will be able to sign the agreement soon," Kobia said.
Kobia did not exclude that it may happen in 2013.
However, he added that still more work needed to be done.
"A plenary meeting on association agreement of the EU and Azerbaijani representatives will be held in Brussels on April 9-10," he said.
Relations between the EU and Azerbaijan are being managed by a Partnership and Cooperation Agreement which was signed in 1996 and came into force in 1999. In 2009, the Minister of Foreign Affairs for the EU Commission issued a mandate to start negotiations on the conclusion of bilateral association agreements of Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia with the EU. These agreements will be a new practical instrument to replace the bilateral action plans.
