FM: Azerbaijan-Russia-Kazakhstan co-op format – an optimum alternative
Baku, Azerbaijan, Nov. 20
By Leman Zeynalova – Trend:
The Azerbaijan-Russia-Kazakhstan format is the most favorable alternative of trilateral cooperation, said Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov at a joint press conference with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov in Baku Nov. 20.
“My Kazakh colleague showed interest in creating such a format,” said the foreign minister adding that this format can be created and it is quite optimal for the development of regional processes,” added the official.
Sergey Lavrov, for his part, noted that the creation of such a cooperation format requires the existence of common interests.
“For example, the Russia-Azerbaijan-Iran format is an association that emerged on the basis of common interest primarily in the development of the relevant section of the International North-South Transport Corridor,” said the Russian foreign minister.
He added that it is necessary to approach to this issue depending on what real substance is available for such cooperation.
