Azerbaijan is making a great contribution to the friendship and partnership among the countries of the world by holding the first European Games, Greek MP Evgenia Ouzounidou told Trend May 6.
"Azerbaijan is preparing for the first European Games at a high level," the MP said. "Such events bring great benefit to all countries. Of course, these games provide an opportunity for the athletes to demonstrate their skills."
She said that the first European Games will increase the authority of Azerbaijan in the international arena, as well as create an opportunity for the economic development of the country.
"As it is known, these Games will bring together thousands of athletes," he said. "Tens of thousands of foreigners will visit Azerbaijan to watch the games. Moreover, the European Games will be broadcast throughout the world. Of course, all this will contribute to Azerbaijan's popularity in the world and create an opportunity for many tourists to visit the country in the future. Greece also held the Olympic Games. Proceeding from the experience, I can say that the first European Games will be advantageous for Azerbaijan."
Baku 2015 is the first-ever European Games, an exciting and innovative multi-sport event for the continent that will take place on June 12-28, 2015.
There will be a total of 20 sports at Baku 2015: 16 Olympic sports and four non-Olympic sports. More than 6,000 athletes from across Europe will be representing their nations over 17 days of competition.
Baku was awarded the games by the European Olympic Committees (EOC) in December 2012.
