Azerbaijan approves action plan for green energy zone in liberated areas (UPDATE)

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 22. The Cabinet of Ministers of Azerbaijan has approved the action plan for the creation of a green energy zone in the Azerbaijani territories liberated from Armenian occupation [in the 2020 Second Karabakh War] in 2022-2026, Trend reports.

According to the action plan, over the period from 2022 through 2026, public and private organizations are to take appropriate measures to introduce energy efficiency requirements and green technologies in the Azerbaijani liberated territories.

These actions involve the establishment of electricity and gas distribution networks, creation of the Azerbaijan-Türkiye-Europe energy corridor through Nakhchivan, measuring the renewable energy potential, as well as the construction of Khudafarin and Giz Galasi (Maiden Tower) hydroelectric power plants.

Moreover, the action plan includes the construction of solar power plant in Jabrayil district, wind power plants in Lachin and Kalbajar districts, installation of roof solar power systems as part of green technology introduction, implementing energy-efficient green technology in street and road lighting, installation of electric charging points for vehicles, etc.
