DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, May 16. The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has published a forecast for the growth of Tajikistan's gross domestic product (GDP) in 2024–2025, Trend reports.
According to the EBRD forecast, Tajikistan's GDP growth will reach 7.5 percent this year.
The forecast remained unchanged from the previous September forecast for 2023, in which GDP growth for 2024 was also projected at 7.5 percent.
At the same time, according to the bank's forecast, Tajikistan's GDP growth in 2025 will decrease slightly and amount to 7 percent.
"Real GDP grew by 8.3 percent in 2023, with particularly strong gains in mining (up 11.7 percent), manufacturing (up 12.3 percent), and agriculture (up 9 percent). Exports added 14.6 percent, driven by a 2.2-time increase in exports of gold and other precious metals and stones, while imports rose by 13.8 percent. Domestic demand swelled on increased remittances, wages, international arrivals, and credit (outstanding loans rose by 31 percent in 2023, and 26 percent year on year from January through February 2024)," the bank noted.
The bank also notes that Tajikistan's GDP growth amounted to 8.3 percent last year, 8 percent in 2022, and 9.4 percent in 2021.
Meanwhile, the World Bank (WB) predicts Tajikistan's GDP to expand by 6.5 percent in 2024. The bank expects Tajikistan's economic growth to decline to 4.5 percent in both 2025 and 2026.
Similarly, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) expects Tajikistan's GDP to rise by 6.5 percent this year and next.
Furthermore, Tajikistan's President Emomali Rahmon highlighted the country's economic progress in his address to the Supreme Assembly at the end of 2023. He noted that Tajikistan's GDP increased by 8.3 percent in 2023 compared to the previous year, reaching over 130 billion somoni ($11 billion).
