BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 2. The projects of solar power plant in Jabrayil will create the base for future investments, BP's Vice President for finance in Azerbaijan, Georgia and Türkiye Colin Allan told Trend.

"Since 2016, BP has reduced carbon emissions in Azerbaijan by half a million tons through a variety of methods, by making its operations more efficient. Those are lots of small projects. The investment in the solar project on the liberated territories in terms of its potential to connect to Sangachal is a huge step in terms of investments," he said.

According to him, the implementation of this project can create a model for future investments.

"The company could look into how it can electrify the projects further. It's a real opportunity in terms of the scale of the project and decarbonization agenda," Allan said.

He also stressed that the issues of hydrogen production is currently a very conceptional topic.

"BP is at the beginning of the journey. The company looks into all opportunities to decarbonize its operation and enter into the market of renewable energy sources. So hydrogen in this regard is a huge opportunity to export it through the existing gas pipelines. However, this is a very long-term thinking," Allan added.
