BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 3. The commencement of commercial operation for the Alexandroupolis LNG, a Greek liquefied natural gas terminal, initially slated for mid-May, has been rescheduled to late May or early June, an informed source told Trend.
"The operator of the terminal, Gastrade A.E., has encountered technical issues during the commissioning phase. Hence, the launch is likely to be realized by the beginning of June," the source said.
Alexandroupolis Independent Natural Gas System (INGS) terminal with a capacity of 5.5 billion cubic meters of gas per year will facilitate the delivery of gas to end consumers in Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Northern Macedonia, Serbia, and further to Moldova and Ukraine, as well as to Hungary and Slovakia.
INGS complements the structure of the European gas transportation system, along with the Gas Interconnector Greece-Bulgaria (IGB); the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), part of the Southern Gas Corridor (SGC), which brings gas from Azerbaijan to Europe; and projects to expand underground gas storage facilities in Europe. The terminal will be the second in Greece and will receive LNG from the US, Qatar, Algeria, and other sources.
