Azerbaijan, Baku, April 24 / Trend, M. Aliyev /
Armenia has frozen the process of ratification of the Zurich protocols because of its wrongness, ruling New Azerbaijan Party (NAP) Deputy Chairman and Executive Secretary Ali Ahmedov said today.
"Turkey is on the right way, considers it real to improve relations with Armenia provided that Armenia withdraws from the occupied Azerbaijani territories. We consider this position just. If Armenia wants to improve relations with Turkeyit shall withdraw from the occupied territories,"- Ahmedov said.
Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan signed a decree suspending the ratification of the Armenian-Turkish protocols on normalizing relations between Yerevan and Ankara.
The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan since 1992, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and 7 surrounding districts. Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994.
The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group - Russia, France, and the U.S. - are currently holding the peace negotiations.
Armenia has not yet implemented the U.N. Security Council's resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh region and the occupied territories.
