At least 50 people were killed and hundreds injured during the dispersal of the camp of ousted President Mohamed Morsi's supporters in Cairo, Al-Jazeera channel reported.

This information has not yet been officially confirmed. Previously it was reported that 15 people were killed and then updated to some 30 killed as reported

On Wednesday morning forces from the Interior Ministry began to disperse two camps of Morsi supporters in Cairo. The police used tear gas grenades for this purpose. Cairo's Rabia Al-Adawiya and Nahda squares were surrounded by armoured cars, and military helicopters are patrolling overhead.

The movement supporting the return of Mohamed Morsi to power, the National Coalition for Supporting Legitimacy called all its supporters to "urgently come to these squares in order to resist a bloody massacre".

Last week, the Egyptian media outlets reported that the operation to stop the endless protests of Morsi's supporters may take several weeks.

In order to avoid casualties, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Defence has developed a plan of a phased dispersal of the protestors.

The protests of the Islamists began almost immediately after the military ousted the then President Morsi from power on July 3. Small tented cities, field kitchens, hospitals and platforms for speeches emerged on the squares.

A number of media outlets are carrying live broadcasts from the protest sites.

The Islamists have erected barricades made from pavement tiles, sandbags, and steel structures. Egypt's Interior Ministry reported that there are guns and explosives on the squares.
