Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. S.Ilhamgizi / The Consultative Council of 6 opposition parties of Azerbaijan made the decision to participate in the forthcoming presidential elections in Azerbaijan 2008, Sardar Jalaloglu, the chairman of the Democratic Party of Azerbaijan (DPA), reported.
The Council has discussed a range of issues concerning the presidential elections 2008. The Council will continue discussions on the issue during the next meeting. Jalaloglu said the 6 opposition parties are against the boycotting of the approaching elections. "We will participate at the presidential elections and believe that attendance of opposition forces may change the course of the elections completely. The issue concerning nomination of one candidate has not been agreed upon yet," the chairman said.
The presidential elections in Azerbaijan will be held on 15 October 2008. Various opposition parties have called for the boycotting of the elections if no changes have been made to the Election Code of Azerbaijan by the start of the elections in 2008.
